Our final day of piano camp is here, and let me tell you, the dragons came out in full force today! It was all Lainey and I could do to keep our younger group on track. Thankfully, everything is scheduled in 10-minute increments, so it doesn’t allow much time for distraction or wandering. Here are today’s highlights from To the Isle with Powell and His Dragons:

It was time to break out the light-up drum sticks for our Welcome to Piano Camp song today – always a favorite!

We introduced the B-flat for our final day and the students had fun sifting through the black key mix-up to each find their own keyboard with a B-flat marked.

At the end of each camp group we did a short presentation for the parents singing our two songs and demonstrating our rhythm cup tapping choreography. It’s a quick 5-10 minute program, but such a sweet opportunity for students and parents alike.

Our silly picture of the younger group – very fitting for today! Such a wonderful group of little people to join us on the dragon-themed musical adventure this week!

Throughout the course of the week in the older group we had numerous dragon visitors that showed up, compliments of 3D printers that several of them have access to in their homes!

I decided not to risk the mayhem with the younger group, but for the older group we broke out the nerf gun and collection of dragon eggs. The B-flat was an imposter egg that they had to try to eliminate from the nest before it hatched. Each student had three tries to shoot it out and most of them were successful!

The dramatic end of the rhythm cup tapping choreography. Check out the video of this performance if you want to see the whole thing!

Each student who completed all the Dragon Training Exercises throughout the week was awarded an official Dragon Training Certificate at the conclusion of the parent performances.

This absolutely wonderful group of 9-13 year-old girls. I could not have asked for a more enthusiastic, creative, and delightful group to work with all week. I would have every one of them back in a heartbeat!
