How is that for a name?! There’s a reason I’m such a fan of well-written children’s books; they offer glimpses into people and events and places that I might never learn about if I had to stick to the adult shelves of the library! I recently came across the children’s book “Before There Was Mozart: The Story of Joseph Boulogne, Chevalier de Saint-George” by Lesa Cline-Ransome.
You’ll have to pick up this engaging and attractive read to learn about the origin of that mouthful of a name. And you may be surprised to learn about the connection between this obscure musician and the famous Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. After reading it, I was curious to explore more and I came across a whole album of music from this talented composer. One of the things I’ve appreciated in the music community in recent years is the emphasis on uncovering the works of lesser-known composers. If that’s of interest to you as well, I think you’ll be delighted to listen to this beautiful playlist of music by Bologne (one of several spellings of his last name…):
Do you have any other lesser-known composers or works you’ve come across recently that you would recommend?
