Ingvaras Galinskas, the founder of Melodician (a word the developer coined to mean, “a person who makes melodies”), contacted me several weeks ago to let me know about this amazing resource he has created. If you’ve ever wanted a quick place to go or to send a student to look up the notes of a chord, this is it!
The layout of the Melodician site is sleek and intuitive. Just click on any of the chord names to go to the dedicated page for that chord.
In the piano section, a keyboard is shown with the notes of the chord highlighted. You can click a button to hear the C chord, either harmonically or melodically. You can also toggle the button in the upper right to show the left hand fingering throughout the diagrams on the page.
Scroll down to see diagrams of the chord inversions and even a bit of a diagnostic explanation of what to consider if the chord doesn’t sound quite right when you play it. The bottom of the page suggests chords to study next and also gives quick links to all of the other C-related chords.
This is such a fabulous and accessible resource to easily pull up during a lesson as a visual for students. And it’s the perfect, distraction-free site for students to use as they learn chords and inversions, especially if they are learning to play from chord charts or lead sheets for a Jazz band or worship team!
