The Story Orchestra: The Planets

The Planets is part of The Story Orchestra, a series of interactive books that highlight a particular musical work. This one introduces readers to Gustav Holst’s seven-movement orchestral suite of the same name. The story begins with two siblings enjoying their new astronomically-decorated bedroom and invites readers to join them as they travel from planet to planet in our solar system. Along the way, buttons marked “Press Here” on each page play excerpts from each of the movements. Inside the back cover, readers will find a composer biography, glossary of related musical terms, and a brief synopsis of each musical excerpt. Jessica Courtney-Tickle’s illustrations capture the description of each planet as the children land and explore while listening to the accompanying soundtrack.
