Another day of piano camp has come and gone. The hours just fly by! Again, I failed to get many pictures, but here are a few:

For our Welcome to Piano Camp song we broke out the xylophone today, which gave students the opportunity to play not only a rhythm, but also a melody, when it was their turn.
Here’s a brief video so you can get an idea of the song. It’s a great way to help everyone learn each other’s names, give students an opportunity for musical expression, incorporate the principle of keeping a steady beat, and get everyone involved right off the bat!

I’m impressed at how quickly the students are picking up the songs! They are really enjoying learning the actual sign language for one of them!

The older group already got through learning the entire first song and we had a great time today starting to sing our Latin song in a round. It’s amazing how much a little bit of harmony enriches the experience!

For our rhythm time I thought it would be fun to have the older piano camp group learn a cup tapping rhythm. One of them asked me excitedly yesterday if it was “the cup song” from Pitch Perfect. I had no idea, so I had to look it up, and indeed it is! Here’s a fun video clip showing the scene where everyone starts participating in Cups: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmSbXsFE3l8&list=RDcmSbXsFE3l8&start_radio=1
Such a fun time with these wonderful groups of students! Can’t wait for another day of music and fun at piano camp tomorrow!
