As I continue to finalize our practice incentive theme for this fall and work on individual piano student lesson plans, I found this post at Colourful Keys with three types of lesson planning very insightful: 3 Useful Styles of Lesson Plans for Piano Teachers
It’s an older post, but the content is still as relevant as ever! The three types of lesson planning are identified as:
1. Time-Based Lesson Plans for Piano Teachers
This could easily be a week-by-week v. hour-by-hour plan as well! The minute-by-minute approach is how I structure most of my piano camp lesson plans because we have so much to cover in a short amount of time each day, and particularly with younger students I want to keep a quick pace moving from one activity to the next.
2. Piano Lesson Planning with Categories
Particularly helpful for considering how to help students focus on areas where they need to improve. This is often how my planning process works when I’m trying to think of games or other activities to help students hone in on a specific concept or skill.
3. Mindmap Style Piano Lesson Plans
This is what I gravitate toward when I’m working on practice incentive theme ideas, more of a brainstorming approach that allows me to get lots of ideas down on paper!
Check out the fabulous post for more details and ideas of how you can utilize these various lesson planning approaches in your own piano studio!
