Piano Camp Day Three – To London with Handel and His Messiah

June 9, 2022 by natalie Leave a Comment

Even though I have several variations for our Piano ExpeditionsWelcome to Piano Camp song, the students never tire of our basic version where we greet each one and then give them a chance to play a rhythm pattern on the instrument of the day. I love using this opening activity to focus the students’ attention, establish a sense of steady beat, and give them opportunity for individual expression. It’s a win-win-win!

A simple game of “Handel Says” was a fun way to review all the piano key names today!

Incorporating hand motions into our song keeps the students engaged and makes it easier for them to remember the lyrics.

I moved out all my office chairs to avoid the students trying to opt for them instead of the floor. Wouldn’t you know they all decided to pile onto my reading chair instead?!

Our game time today involved wrapping students up as mummies, which proved to be quite entertaining!

Today’s quotable from one little guy, “It’s sad that piano camp is almost over. It’s like we just start and then it’s done!”

We’ll be back tomorrow with another full day of learning and excitement!
