Anyone who’s been around here for a while knows that I’m a huge fan of Carnival of the Animals. I’ve used it as the theme for a regular summer piano camp for my students and also for the Piano Expeditions piano camp – To France with Saint-Saëns and His Carnival. Even before that, I used it for several other piano camps that featured a fun oversized coloring book full of the animals represented in each movement. There’s also a free Carnival of the Animals music listening game that’s perfect for a group class or other studio event!
One of my favorite movements is The Aquarium, so I was thrilled to see that Making Music Fun has two arrangements of it available as free piano sheet music for a limited time! The beginner/easy piano version is 2 pages long and includes a simple right hand melody with basic left hand accompaniment. The intermediate piano version is 3 pages long and captures the shimmering effect of the opening by placing both hands high in the treble clef in an alternating eighth note rhythm pattern. A very cool-sounding piece for any intermediate student!
