One of our favorite studio traditions is a week-long piano camp! It’s taken various forms over the years – from an intensive course for serious high school students, to a Carnival of the Animals adventure for my current students, to our most recent offering: Piano Expeditions for young, mostly-preschool students who are not taking formal lessons but want some fun music education. Last year we went To France with Saint-Saëns and His Carnival, and this year we are going To Russia with Mussorgsky and His Exhibition!
We start next Monday and I’ve been busily planning and preparing for a week full of coloring, reading, listening, playing, and – most important of all according to the students! – eating snacks. I’m hoping to post updates throughout the week as we god, so stay tuned for what works…and what doesn’t. I’m trying some new outdoor music-related games this year, so I’m excited to see what the students think of them. Hope your summer is going well and you and your students are enjoying some fun musical experiences as well!
[I love that I can put dozens of hours into planning a thorough, educational week of camp, and yet when I ask the students what their favorite part is, they almost always start with the snacks…!]
