I’ve recently come across a few new free piano flashcard resources, so I thought I would share them, along with a few of my favorites that I’ve used for years! Do you have any favorite free flashcard resources that you use in your studio and would recommend?
Piano Safari Level 1 Flashcards of Music Terms (52 cards)
I’ve been a long-time fan and Piano Safari teacher, but I just recently found out about this wonderful set of free flashcards that correlate with Level One.
Beginning Sight-Reading Flashcards with Landmark Notes and Steps and Skips
4D Piano Teaching by Whitney Hawker and Spring Seals is another recent discovery that is loaded with all kinds of free piano printables, worksheets, and resources. I love these simple two note sight-reading flashcards and plan to use them with my 4-year old nephew who is picking up so quickly on note identification and is almost ready for some simple sight-reading practice!
Single Note Flashcards for Rhythm Dictation Games
I made these many years ago and use them all the time at group lessons for team rhythm dictation games! Take a peak at a pair of siblings using these for a rhythmic dictation challenge.
These sets of free rhythm flashcards that I printed and laminated years ago from D’Net Layton are still a staple in my studio! The collections advance from simple rhythms to more complex combinations of sixteenth notes and rests, so they can be used for a wide variety of students.
Also, this is a long shot, but I’m wondering if someone can help me out with this! I have this document saved on my computer that has 36 strips with finger number patterns for both the left and right hands. I recently pulled it out to use with my 4-year old nephew and he is doing a fabulous job learning to play them without looking at his hands. I would love to share a link, but I cannot for the life of me figure out where I initially found them online. There is no copyright or location identification, and I’ve run all kinds of searches, but can’t turn them up anywhere. Does anyone happen to know who created these?
And this one’s not free, but the Monster Collection of Music Theory Flashcards is on sale for just $15 and includes over 800 flashcards for everything from piano keys to key signatures to intervals to chords, even in inversions – can be used as printables or digital files. I’ve been using it with this year’s practice incentive theme in our studio and I have been blown away at how much my students have progressed in their musical knowledge and skills just from this one element of saying and playing the various flashcard sets – especially the chord inversion ones!
