Anytime I see anything having to do with the Carnival of the Animals, I am immediately hooked! It’s one of my all-time favorite collections of music and I have used it multiple times for piano camps – for my piano students and for a special preschool Piano Expeditions music camp. So, when I recently came across Maestro Classics, the first thing I noticed was their Carnival of the Animals album.
I haven’t had a chance to listen to the whole album yet (other than the sample recordings that are on the website), but I was thrilled to discover that they also have a free curriculum guide with hundreds of related links and resources in all kinds of subject areas like science, language arts, math, and more! They also have albums and free curriculum guides for such classics as Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, and even the favorite fable The Tortoise and the Hare. Any one of these could provide the theme and framework for an entire week of piano camp or year of group classes. I’m excited to check back here for quick links and ideas when I’m brainstorming for another piano camp or group lesson theme!
