Last night’s September Surprise was a blast! I officially introduced and launched this year’s practice incentive theme – AD ASTRA: a journey to the stars. Here are a few highlights from the occasion:
My small, but dedicated studio of students and parents convened for the evening. (Plus, my creative husband who helped with lots of ideas and fine-tuning to pull together this year’s practice incentive theme!) [Notice the game show style buzzer – the Eggspert – that adds a dose of fun and makes it much easier to figure out who gets to answer first. I wanted one of these for years and finally purchased it a couple of years ago. Now we use it all the time for all kinds of games!]
We played a Jeopardy-style rendition of Galactic Games, created to go with the space theme for this year. It was students v. parents as they competed in categories like Galactic Numbers, Galactic Phenomena, Galactic Tunes, and more. So fun!
Each of the students and I took turns playing a piece of our choice. Ashley played a version of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star by ear, which was so fitting for the occasion. I was excited to find Space Wanderer by Vitalij Neugasimov (in Piano Sketches Book 2).
We ended the evening with a smorgasbord of galactic snacks, like Monterrey Jack Moons, Kiwi Comets, Cosmic Brownies, and more. I’m so looking forward to the year ahead and watching these students work hard and make great progress in their musical knowledge and piano skills!
