After several years of tossing around the idea of offering preschool piano camp/classes, this year I finally decided to give it a go! It’s in “Beta testing” this week, but I’m super excited to introduce you to: Piano Expeditions!
I have five students between the ages of 3.5 and 7 who are participating this week. Our first day was a blast! Each day we are traveling To France with Saint-Saëns and His Carnival as we discover world geography with their fun inflatable globes, listen to an animal movement from the fabulous Carnival of the Animals suite by Camille Saint-Saëns, sing a song in rounds set to Psalm 105:4, introduce piano key groupings and names, learn the note names of the treble staff with an engaging and interactive story, build a beginning knowledge of music vocabulary and technique, and improvise music together at the piano. Oh, and eat theme-related snacks!
The students picked up on our Welcome to Piano Camp Song quickly and had fun greeting each other by name and taking turns playing the drum!
Another favorite was Read-it! time with the fabulous story, Here Come the High Notes by Marin Markin. Of course, nothing quite beats snack time when you’re little, but everyone enjoyed each part of our first day experiencing the Wild and Wonderful World of Music. Stay tuned for more as the week goes on!
