Welcome to the Symphony

Welcome to the Symphony by Carolyn Sloan is an engaging interactive story that follows three mice through their attendance at a performance of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. I used it with my students as part of our Piano Expeditions piano camp, To Russia with Mussorgsky and His Exhibition and the students loved listening to it every day. The story introduces them to terms like symphony, concertmaster, tempo, and more, and they learn about each of the instrument families by pressing the music buttons that play snippets of each instrument’s part in the famous symphony. Colorful illustrations by James Williamson accompany the educational story. A beautiful book in every way!
