Look Out for Low Notes

Look Out for Low Notes is the companion book to the excellent Here Come the High Notes by Marin Marka. This one introduces each of the notes on the bass clef, quickly capturing the reader’s interest with their creative names (Snooty C, Spacey F, etc.) and colorful antics. I prefer this over complete sentences for learning the music staff because the name of the note itself is emphasized and students don’t confuse themselves further trying to remember exactly how to word the sentence! Alexandra Tatu’s illustrations again make a perfect parallel to little fuzzies that can be outfitted with googly eyes and magnets and employed to make this an interactive read. We used it as part of our piano camp, To London with Handel and His Messiah and the students had such fun each day choosing their note and letting him play his part!
