Ada’s Violin tells the inspiring true story of a young girl who grew up on the now-infamous landfill in Cateura, Paraguay. This unlikely “town made of trash” attracted international attention in 2008 when from it emerged an orchestra of children led by Favio Chávez performing on instruments constructed from recycled items scavenged from the landfill. And so they became known as “The Recycled Orchestra.” Collage-style illustrations by Sally Wern Comport perfectly portray this powerful story that should encourage music teachers and students everywhere to see the beauty in what they have and that if they are willing to work hard, they will be amazed at what they can accomplish!
