At our recent local music teachers association meeting one of the teachers introduced us to a new resource (at least new to us!) called The Rhythm Randomizer.
I have dreamed of having something like this for years! You can select 1,2,4, or 8 measures and then set parameters for time signatures and various note values.
For example, I was curious how this would work for a student who needs lots of reinforcement as he learns the dotted quarter note – eighth note rhythm, so I specified that in the settings along with a few other variables. Then I just clicked the New Rhythm button and it instantly generated a new 4-measure rhythm with multiple instances of that pattern:
The metronome and playback features aren’t working on my phone, but the limitless instantaneously generated rhythm patterns themselves make this an invaluable tool that I can use in piano lessons!

I use this all the time in my piano class at college. It’s great as you can make it as easy or as hard as you’d like.
I like to put movements to each of the different rhythmic values. We count and move forward and then do the whole rhythm backwards.

I’ve never thought of doing rhythm patterns backwards. What a creative idea!
