IT’S HERE! Piano Expeditions piano camp is one of the highlights of the summer here in our studio, and today was the first day of a week full of fun and learning! Since so many of my students who started out participating in these Piano Expeditions camps five years ago are still coming, I decided to split the week into two different camp groups – one for 4-8 year olds and one for 9 and older. Based on how things went today, I definitely plan to continue doing this in the future! Here are a few highlights from today:
We were able to launch right in with our beloved “Welcome to Piano Camp” song that introduces each student by name and gives them a change to do a little rhythmic improvisation. Always super fun!
Improvising at the piano (while my fabulous assistant, Stephanie, plays a duet accompaniment) is a delightful opportunity for students to incorporate the concept we are working on (half steps today) in a musical way.
Our story this year is “Welcome to Jazz,” one of Carolyn Sloan’s interactive music books that never ceases to captivate students!
Lining up for our keyboard relay race!

I sure love all these kiddos and am looking forward to spending the rest of the week with them!
