Gerald Klickstein’s seasonal newsletter is always chock full of links to various articles and resources for musicians. His book, The Musician’s Way, still stands out in my mind as one of the most insightful and practical that I’ve read on the topic of practicing.
In his Summer 2023 newsletter, he linked to an Efficient Practice article that highlights 4 Ways to Increase Practice Efficiency. Especially helpful is a whole page of free downloadable resources related to practicing – practice assessments, logs, schedules, and more! The more I teach, the more I realize that one of my primary roles as a piano teacher is to teach my students to practice efficiently and effectively. I’m scouring as many resources as I can this summer as I develop next year’s practice incentive theme to see how I can better incorporate some of these ideas and strategies into my student’s weekly goals and assignments. Do you have any favorite practice strategies or resources that you use with your students?
