Piano Camp Day Two – To London with Handel and His Messiah

June 7, 2022 by natalie Leave a Comment

Our second day of piano camp arrived, and with it 8 pairs of little feet scurrying to the studio ready for another adventure! One of the moms told me that she asked her boys yesterday what they thought (this was their first piano camp to attend), and her older one exclaimed, “It was much better than I thought it would be!” She asked, but he wouldn’t divulge what exactly he had expected it to be…

After our welcome song, we reviewed the group of 2 black keys and C-D-E, then learned about the group of 3 black keys and F-G. We played a fun Up-Up-and-Away game with our full-sized printable piano keyboards to reinforce that information.

We added half notes to our rhythmic dictation with Heartbeat Rhythms today. I was impressed at how quickly the students caught on!

Yesterday I inadvertently skipped the improv time when students get a chance to play the piano incorporating the notes and/or concepts we are learning about that day. They love being able to play a beautiful-sounding duet with Stephanie!

Game time was a version of the classic “Steal the Bacon” – one of my favorites growing up!

And that – followed by a snack, of course – wraps up Day Two of our Piano Expeditions piano camp. My highlight from the day was when we had our Sing-It! time and had gone through our song a couple of times. I said it was time to move on to the next activity, and one of the little guys piped up, “Can we do it again?” How could I resist?? So we sang it again, and then another little guy requested, “Just one more time?” How rewarding to see them enjoying singing and making beautiful music!
