It’s one of our favorite weeks of the year – piano camp! We are continuing with our Piano Expeditions themes, this year To London with Handel and His Messiah. Here are a few highlights from our first day:
Day One supplies are ready to go! We’ll be using several of the new printable full-sized piano keyboards throughout the week.
It’s amazing how fun it is to practice recognizing the names of piano keys when there is a whacker involved!
One of the favorite activities is listening to the music selections from our featured composer while coloring a corresponding coloring sheet in the student workbook.
A new activity this year incorporates the Heartbeat Rhythms music rhythm game manipulatives each day with simple rhythmic dictation patterns.
I can’t remember the last time I anticipated the release of a new book as much as I’ve anticipated Marin Marka’s Look Out for Low Notes book. My students loved her Here Come the High Notes story when we used it for our Piano Expeditions piano camp two years ago (To France with Saint-Saëns and His Carnival). In fact, when one of them spotted this book from a distance, he exclaimed, “I love that book!” My wonderful student assistant, Stephanie, is our favorite storyteller.
The book really comes to life with the help of some fuzzy friends and a magnetic white board!
Students gather at the base of the driveway in preparation for our outdoor game of the day…
…a C-D-E Relay Race!
What a great start to a week full of adventure. Stay tuned for more excitement the rest of the week!
