The BenQ Piano Light – A Review

February 17, 2020 by natalie 1 Comment

There are some things that you want for your piano studio, so you research and save and wait until just the right moment to acquire the desired item. That was the case for the folding standup desk that I acquired several years ago and still love! But then there are other things that you come across and don’t realize how much you were missing until you have them. That’s the case with the newest addition to our piano studio: the sleek and expertly designed BenQ Piano Light.

When we remodeled the room that became my piano studio, we designed the lighting to be bright and versatile. So I always thought I had plenty of light for printed music at the piano. Until now. Wow, what a difference it makes to have a dedicated piano light!

When the kind folks at BenQ contacted me about reviewing the piano light for them, I was willing to give it a try, and I’ve been so pleased with their product! It arrived neatly packaged and the only assembly required was to affix the eye-care hood to the front of it (this protects the light from shining too brightly in the eyes of children or shorter pianists). One booklet was exclusively in an Asian language, but the Quick Start Guide included English instructions that made it easy to learn the function of each button on the light.

In addition to the obvious power button, the piano light includes controls to make the light more blue or more red, brighter or dimmer, a motion sensor, an auto dimmer, and a way to create a favorite setting. There’s also a handy notch in the base to accommodate the hinge on the top of an upright piano.

As I mentioned, I wasn’t researching or looking to buy a piano light, so I’m not sure how the $239 price tag compares with others on the market, but I can say that the BenQ Piano Light has been thoughtfully designed with pianists in mind. If you’re looking for a new piano light (or like me are just realizing what you’ve been missing!), I would recommend giving it a try!
