Perhaps one of the most transformational moments of my music teaching career was attending a showcase by Forrest Kinney at the MTNA conference in 2010. It is not an exaggeration to say that my teaching has never been the same since! I began incorporating his ideas on improvisation into our lessons right away and was amazed at the difference it made in my students. Eventually, this led me to attend a Pattern Play intensive in Seattle that continued to give me the tools I needed to develop more freedom and expression at the piano for myself and my students.
Anyway, all that to say that I was thrilled to see that Forrest Kinney is conducting a free masterclass with Musical U this Saturday! His sessions are always highly inspirational and practical, so I know that any piano teacher who attends will leave with ideas they can incorporate right away in their teaching!
