One of my students would like to participate in a Summer Piano Camp in Northern New Jersey. I found that Westminister Choir College has a good piano camp in Princeton, NJ. Are you aware of any other camps or Summer piano programs in Northern NJ?
I received the above question from a reader and said that I would post it here to see if anyone else could help. I’m not very familiar with summer camps around the country, but figured that some of you might be involved in various camps and/or workshops and would want to let others know about them on here.
In fact, I just received some information about a Summer Piano Pedagogy Workshop at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota that features Gerald Klickstein, author of The Musician’s Way, among others. It looks fabulous, and I wish that I could attend!
If you are aware of either a summer music camp for students and/or a workshop for music teachers, please feel free to leave the info in the comments below!

Not sure if any other readers are from Michigan, but my grad program at Eastern Michigan University is hosting a week long camp for teachers featuring Marilyn Lowe of the Music Moves for Piano curriculum. I highly recommend to check out her site, http://www.musicmovesforpiano.com if you are interested in challenging your ideas about how music is learned!!!
I attended Pensacola Christian College’s Summer Music Academy my Senior year of high school. Absolutely wonderful! Even if you live on the other side of the country, I believe it is worth attending for all serious, responsible music students. It was cheaper than the camp I went to at a local college, but offered so much more.
Two weeks filled with two hours required daily practice, private lessons, hymn playing/accompanying or chamber music/sectionals, orchestra or choir, wonderful team activities, challenging theory, interesting music history, lots of recitals, and a grand finale concert.
They are very accommodating if you play more than one instrument and want, say, private lessons and would like to accompany others with your piano skills but would like to do chamber music and orchestra with your other instrument.
There is daily chapel and required church attendance, wonderful staff, responsible counselors, good student discipline and fellowship, and amazing instruction.
I attended Westminster Choir College’s piano camp for the past 4 summers of my high school career and absolutely loved it. The attention each camper gets and the experiences we gain are unique to anywhere else.
Also check into the Summer Piano Institute at Ithaca College in upstate NY. Very nice program.
It may be late to register now, but look into it anyway! Both camps are wonderful.
