As I mentioned yesterday, I’ve been thinking about doing a listening/music appreciation-based practice incentive theme next year. For that reason, I was especially interested when I received an e-mail a few weeks ago from EasyEarTraining.com alerting me to their site and the resources they offer. I’ve just perused the site briefly so far, but it looks interesting. On the home page, there’s a link to an Ear Training Quiz that tests your ear in 10 different categories:
- Intervals
- Scales
- Chords
- Chord Progressions
- Notes
- Tempo
- Rhythm
- Instruments
- Frequencies
- Audio Effects
I’ve never seen an ear-training quiz with a range of tested areas like this, so it was interesting. I’m happy to report that I got 6 out of 10 correct.
(I have a terrible ear, so the fact that I got more than 50% is quite rewarding…haha) You can also retake the test (same questions, but different examples are played) to try to improve your score. Apparently I am not beyond hope, because I got 7 out of 10 the second time! If you try it, let me know what score you get!

What a fun idea and useful website. I scored 8 of 10. As a classically-trained musician, the frequency and audio effects questions slammed me. We’re never too old to learn though.
That was cool! I also scored 6 first try and then 7 my second try. I was really out of my element with the frequency question!
What a fun quiz! I like how there are so many different aspects to it, too. I scored a 5 out of 10 my first try. Thanks for sharing!
