Enter to Win a Composer Activity Pak

Laura Lowe is hosting a giveaway for a Composer Activity Pak over on her blog. The Pak is produced by Homeschooling in the Woods, a company known for its Hands-on History Paks. I loved making lap books growing up, and I know many other students enjoy them as well.

This looks like a wonderful educational resource! Just head over to Laura’s blog to enter the giveaway. And if you blog about it on your blog, she’ll give you an extra five entries! :-) The drawing will take place on Monday, June 8.

Monday Mailbag – Scheduling Group Classes

I was just wondering how you fit in group lessons into your weekly schedule. How often would they have a group lesson? Do you just keep the same time each week and rotate which group you see?

What I do is a little bit of a different approach from most teachers who conduct group classes. I schedule six group classes throughout the year – three in the fall semester, and three in the spring semester. I schedule them on a weekday evening (usually Thursday) for an hour and a half after my regular lessons are done for the day. Then, I just include those dates on my studio calendar at the beginning of the year.

The group classes are open to all of my students – I don’t segregate them by ages or levels. I usually have around 15 students in attendance, which makes for lots of great games and performance opportunities!

Remember, if you have a question you’d like to contribute to next week’s Monday Mailbag, leave it in the comments below or send me an e-mail sometime this week with Monday Mailbag in the subject line!
