Huckabee on Music, Arts and Education

Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is a long-time supporter of music and arts education. Listen to him share his thoughts in this short clip. He’s the only candidate I’ve heard specifically address music education.

  1. Pam Wilson Says:

Great sentiment, but the research has been out for years about this “left/right” brain thing. There’s no such thing. The ENTIRE brain is activated when a person creates music, especially singing (since it is both musical and verbal). THAT is why music is so critical to a child’s education (besides the fact that they learn about cultures, working together, etc.). Physiologically, it is setting up neural pathways that the child will then use in learning all other subjects. This is why students who stay in music longer have better academic performance than those who don’t.
